During the last week of September, Campo rounded off the annual Homecoming week with the usual rally, accompanied by a spirit week in the days leading up to it. Monday was college gear, Tuesday was wilderness or safari jungle, Wednesday was a pink out for the start of October, Thursday was dress for success, and Friday was class shirts and colors.
This year, leadership decided to implement a new system for spirit weeks: throughout the week, students were able to submit the names of students who they believed to have brought the most energy and spirit during the dress up days, with the winner earning donuts for their entire fourth period class. Rally leader and senior Stella McLeod commented on the new addition, stating “I think when there’s more spirit leading up to a big event, it makes everyone more excited. If no one dresses up, then the spirit goes down and the energy goes down.”
This year, the rally included some familiar and some newer activities for students to enjoy. Leadership continued to include fan-favorite activities such as sibling bumper balls or team relay races. McLeod mentions, “My favorite activity always is bumper balls, I think it’s always super fun and we continue [including] it because everyone thinks it’s fun to watch.”
During the rally, the tradition of a routine with Varsity football and cheer continued. Varsity Competitive cheerleader and sophomore Annika Smick enjoyed performing with the team for her first year, saying “My favorite part of the football and cheer rally was getting to watch them do their dance.” Smick elaborated on the preparation for the routine mentioning, “We watched the football players stunt and decided what we could include in the rally and what we couldn’t. We also had to learn two dances, one modified and one regular to teach and show them.”
Leadership also introduced newer activities that were positively received, such as a game of Snake where students form a line and keep a balloon in between them without popping or a trending game of “Wig Snatch,” where the objective is to grab the wig of your opponent.
“We definitely want to make our video more unique,” shared McLeod. “I think we went really strong on the first one, and our second one was more theme based, so we want to make the next one as unique as possible.” The school year is off to a great start, and with the amount of time between now and the winter rally, leadership is sure to make it a success!
