Campolindo’s Sports Med program is beloved by many students who are passionate about the opportunity to explore the field while in high school. Sports Med students have taken this passion beyond our Campus and have participated in The Contra Costa Regional Occupation Program. Students from 32 high schools in CCC or ROP courses are nominated to participate by their teachers based on demonstrated qualities of achievement in industry, leadership, career skills improvement, and academic learning.
For the past 17 years Campo students have come away with the Student of Excellence award in sports medicine and this year senior Gianna Souza became the 16th Campo student to continue the legacy. The award represents students’ hard work and dedication to the Sports Med class.
Oftentimes, at a school with high sports participation, we see student-athletes running in cleats, throwing balls, shooting, scoring, and hyping each other up in team huddles. Sports have a vital impact on our school spirit and traditions. This has created an environment that naturally provides relevance for a sports medicine focus. Many value their physical well-being and are interested in how we can best take care of our bodies especially when striking the delicate academic-athlete balance.
Gianna Souza and many others have proved that exploring an interest consistently can have exciting results while simultaneously raising awareness for the importance of self-care and physical activity.
