As prom came and went, many memories are here to stay from that eventful night. The result of prom night was a huge success and many people will reflect on this night. The Junior Prom was held at the Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland and had a theme of the Roaring 20’s.
Before arriving, the bus ride was filled with excitement and music for guests to prepare themselves for the night to come. Many attendees participated in a mini karaoke session with music as a blast from the past. The bus ride included snacks that were offered by leadership members.
Upon arrival, students were greeted outside the entrance of the country club with drinks such as lemonade and water, and appetizers of pizza and chicken kabobs. There was a photo stand where a professional photographer would take your photo, and a blow up basketball game for students to participate in if they were bored from mingling.
The coordinators honored our fellow students who recently passed on by offering bracelets for students to wear in remembrance. These bracelets were placed around the country club allowing all students to access one and honor their classmates.
Walking in, the country club fully embraced the theme as it was adorned with red and black balloons, gold feathers, and even included a mock casino for the guests to learn different games. Junior Thatcher Grenby enjoyed the casino, he said “it was pretty fun. The dealers were really professional and the people who were doing it were really into it. The way the scratcher prizes worked was good” Grenby is referring to the scratch off cards the guests would receive if they won a “blackjack”, which, in the game of 21, is getting 21 immediately with your first two cards. Although it was unlikely to win anything off of the scratch off card, it was still an exciting moment when you won the blackjack round.
Other activities included a photo booth with different costumes for guests to pose in, a dance floor with a DJ, and a game room for those who were tired from dancing. The game room was filled with cards and board games such as monopoly and heads up. Outside, there was a firepit with lounge chairs for those needing a space to sit and relax while enjoying the sunset.
The most popular destination of the night, by far, was the dance floor. The room transformed from a country club into a roaring 20s ballroom. From the music blasting throwbacks to the students’ dance moves, the dance floor had the most upbeat environment. Everyone came together and created an inclusive environment. Junior Violet Ludwig emphasized her time on the dance floor with her friends. Ludwig mentioned, “there was a lot of great energy there [dance floor] and it was a really big space so there was lots of room to just hang out with your friends”
The food was a big part of the night as it fed an estimated 400 picky teenagers. The buffet style dinner was a good way for students to gravitate towards the food they desired. Campolindo went all out with their dessert options as well through the different options available. There was a candy bar, a make-your-own smores station, and a donut platter, all at full accessibility for the guests to grab from.
Junior Jack Jarratt said what he enjoyed most was,“seeing all my friends there and having a good time”. Everyone came together during prom and reunited as a junior class. The night ended quickly for most when the clock struck 10:30, and the buses loaded up with tired guests.
