On Friday, May 2nd, excitement filled the air at Campolindo High School as seniors proudly sported t-shirts and sweatshirts of the colleges they were going to be attending next year for the school’s annual College Commitment Day. The lively event, held outside of the College and Career Center, gave the Class of 2025 a chance to celebrate their post-graduation plans while enjoying food and taking pictures with their friends.
For many students, the highlight was discovering where their classmates would be continuing their education for the next four years of their lives. “I love seeing where everyone’s gonna go and what everyone’s going to do in the future,” said senior Rachel Shin, who is going to the University of Washington next year. She added “it is really special because everyone is included in the celebration.”
The morning gathering, happening right after first period before academy, included bagels, donuts, and fresh fruit which allowed for a perfect setting for final memories before graduation. Senior Tavish Wells, who will attend San Diego State University, raved about the experience because of the fun memories, he explained, will stay with him forever. “The food was great, but the best part was seeing where all my friends are headed at the end of the summer,” he said. “We took pictures with friends who’ll be at the same schools, which was super cool because it gives us a greater connection,” Wells added.
Beyond honoring four-year university commitments the event celebrated all post-graduation paths including gap years, community college, and vocational programs. Senior Will Meyers, who will be playing baseball at Occidental College, said “Campo did a good job honoring students who aren’t going to a traditional four-year college,” he said. “Everybody felt included and got to enjoy the same things,” Meyers added. Senior Alex Rothey, bound for Indiana University, agreed: “Students not going to college felt welcomed…It was a great way to celebrate all our hard work.”
As the Class of 2025 prepares to embark on new adventures for the next four years, Commitment Day served as a heartwarming reminder of their shared journey, and the exciting futures that await.
