Title: Campo Musical Preview
Every year the musical puts on an incredible theatrical performance for its audience. From the songs to the dances, the cast members work hard to give the story line life. Many audience members return year after year to witness another Campo performance.
This year, the cast will be performing The Prom. It follows the story of a young girl, Emma Nolan, who is forbidden by the school board to take her girlfriend to prom, but, with the help of Broadway stars, Emma is able to attend with her girlfriend. This heartbreaking tale has many twists and turns that take the audience for a ride.
Favorite songs: The play is fairly new to the musical industry, being introduced around two to three years ago, and has never been played at Campolindo before. Junior Curtis Resnick plays the lead, Berry Glickman, in the musical. Resnick stated, “‘Barry Going to Prom’ is a really good song that I’m excited for.” Other popular songs include, “Love Thy Neighbor, Dance with You,” “Unruly Heart,” and “It’s Time to Dance.”
Favorite part: Throughout the years, the musicals have brought people together. Many people are drawn to the Campo musical program for many reasons including the possible love for music or the inviting environment. Senior Mia Polichio said, “My favorite thing is the people I get to work with.” There are many different aspects that people in the musical community enjoy, whether it’s making friends, specific dances, or different songs, they find something to love.
Commitment: The dedication and commitment to the musical is shown to various audience members during the end performance. Many students spend hours on end perfecting everything about their performance to create what is possibly the best productions in the district. Senior Mia Polichio describes the effort they put into each production. Polichio states,“We spend three- four a day memorizing lines, memorizing music and performing it while embodying a different character.” The students’ love for the musical is shown in their performances, and many viewers come back year after year to see the hard work pay off for the students.
