On November 3rd former Campolindo Choir director, Lindley Hall, hosted an alumni choir event with 80 singers from the time he taught at Campolindo (1976-1999). They performed in solos, duets, small groups, and sang as a full choir. The alumni sang many traditional choir songs along with some from renowned musicals including Greece and Bye Bye Birdie.
“The event was organized by alumni from the classes of 1980 through I think 2002 participated.” The overall event mission “was to honor the choir director (Lindley Hall) who taught at Campolindo,” said current choir director Mark Roberts. “[Hall’s] former students helped organize it on his behalf and obviously he was involved with that as well,” Roberts added.
Roberts ensured participants had access to the facilities while he helped run the sound. He felt that “it went really well in terms of participants and audience and I thought it was great.”
Junior and choir student, Sarita Berkes attended the concert to watch her aunt, Adrienne Berkes (Campo class of 1994), perform. Adrienne didn’t pursue singing outside of highschool, but enjoyed performing in the Campo musicals. After watching her aunt, Sarita said “it was so cute. She was having so much fun and she was crying at the end because she loved everyone she was doing the choir with.”
Roberts thought many shared Adrienne’s sentiments: “I’m sure it was [emotional] for those who were involved…[There was] a lot of like nostalgia, reliving high school memories, reconnecting with folks and they had a great display in the multi use room with pictures from events all the way back from 1976 through 1999…it was really impactful [for those] who were students during that time.”
Sarita couldn’t believe “that’s going to be me in a few years,” and she would “definitely come back for an alumni choir.”
Junior and choir student Sage Balducci, also attended the choir event to cheer on her mom who is a former choir student at Campo and performed in the concert. Balducci stated that she was “very excited to get to see her because she always supports me at all of my choir performances.” Balducci also expressed how her mother felt when she was able to come back on the stage and perform. “She was really excited to be able to sing in a choir again because she hasn’t I think since high school,” said Balducci.
Campo’s choir legacy is something many hold dear. Present students hope to continue building and supporting this program during their highschool career.
