Although the 2024-2025 school year brings many changes to the Campo library, many returning students are happy to see a familiar face at its front. Formerly known as a math teacher, Jennifer Frugaletti is Campo’s new head librarian.
“The staff were asked what they’d like to see change in the library,” said Frugaletti when asked how this positional opportunity arose. “I had a lot of ideas and offered to implement them.”
Senior and library teacher’s assistant (TA) Tavish Wells says, “[Frugaletti] brings a whole new vibe. She’s very good with [the current] times and she’s good with tech. That’s the future.”
When asked about her goal for the library, Frugaletti stated that “the goal is to modernize.” The library, which has been informally named the “Library Student Center” partially removes itself from the ‘traditional library’ model. “You can’t have it be a totally silent traditional library anymore…” Frugaletti said. “On the other hand it can’t always be happening. There’s some rules that will stay in place and some that will change.”
Frugaletti encourages club meetings and more student collaboration for the future of the library space using new dividers that can close off sections of the library. She also hopes students will use the future patio furniture which will be placed out in front. Frugaletti adds that students can reserve parts of the library and its conference rooms to take advantage of the library’s different spaces. To reserve these spaces, students can talk to Frugaletti or Media Technician Lisa Triggas.
Another noticeable improvement to the library is the easy accessibility to printing made possible by individual computers. This past summer, Frugaletti removed the library’s old computers stating that printing off student computers makes it more efficient and accessible.
Frugaletti has also organized the installation of two new TV screens in the library, and one TV screen at the library entrance. These screens will be constantly updated to display announcements, upcoming events, and student achievements. Junior and president of Campo Book Club Molly O’Riordan said that “the library was in desperate need of a change, and that was already starting last year with the removal of the book shelves…and all the new furniture and electronics. I feel like people will go into the library to actually learn.”
With all the changes being implemented this year the library is sure to bring in many students and hopefully will continue to in future years.
