The Walnut Festival is a celebration for the community of the town Walnut Creek, California with thrilling carnival games, food trucks including corn dogs, french fries and pretzels. Also for those interested, working at the festival provided opportunities for community service. The purpose of this festival was to raise money for the Walnut Creek community.
While raising money for the community, people enjoyed the different facets of the event. Junior Becca Tanner said she “really liked the rides and…[being part of] the community.” She said, “I saw a lot of people from [Campo] there and thought there was a good amount of old and young people…There was [also] good communication atmosphere.” While raising money for a good cause, people of all ages are able to enjoy the festival.
Senior football player Tavish Wells described how he loved the food; “it was pretty good overall. My favorite thing would have to be the dip and dots. They were pretty good.” Along with the desire to help the community, there were other intriguing parts about the festival that led people in. “It seemed pretty intriguing to me. I’ve never really been before so as a first time ‘goer’ I had a knack for it. I thought it would just be a one off experience that would be great and I would just be able to go on some rides and have a pretty fun carnival experience, but it was much more than that,” Wells.
Many thought that the expensive cost of entry, tickets, and food was worth it because it all went to a good cause in the end. Junior Izzie Ramsay-Leavitt said, “considering all the money going to charities and the community, the prices were reasonable even though they were expensive.”
