New year, new students, new staff. As we welcome the class of 2028, we also welcome new staff in the attendance office, counseling office, and wellness center.
Christina Castillo is the new counselor at Campo, but she isn’t new to the district. Castillo said she’s worked before at Acalanes and “prior to even coming to this district I was working for SFUSD (San Francisco Unified)…I was teaching college and career to students in the mission districts.” She has enjoyed working with the people here: “the students and staff are all very approachable and I feel a lot of camaraderie here,” Castillo said.
Castillo said she thinks she’s, “really made connections with a lot of the kiddos here even if they’re not in my caseload.” Her path to becoming a school counselor “started off at community college after graduating from high school…In 2019 I finally transferred to San Francisco State, majored in Health Education, and from there is when I discovered I wanted to be a school counselor.”
Castillo got her masters from the University of San Francisco and found her way to Campo. Outside of work she likes to “take [her] dog on walks.” Castillo also shared, “I’m a pilates girly, and do a lot of pilates, [around] 2-3 times a week.” Additionally, she likes visiting her family and friends in San Francisco.
Molly Cooper, the new attendance technician, said, “I’ve subbed around here for six years… at Campo, Acalanes, and Miramonte.” She enjoys everybody at Campo, the students and the staff. In her time outside of work, she enjoys doing many different activities. Cooper said she “has two kids and goes to their sporting events. I love to go to the beach and travel.”
Cooper lived in Hawaii and had her sons there. When asked about what she did for work previously, she said, “when I moved back here I was a kindergarten aid at Lafayette elementary for five years and then started subbing in this district.” For college, she attended Cal Poly and she was a rec major in hotel management. Overall she is happy to now be at Campo. Cooper said, “I could not ask for better co-workers and the students are incredible and it’s super fun.”
Lisa Domingo is the new associate marriage, family, and CEP therapist at Campo. She worked before at Vacaville Unified and doing crisis residential work around Contra Costa County. She says she enjoys working at Campo because she, “likes that everybody is so nice, everyone has so much school spirit… and I think just having unity at this school is pretty cool.”
Domingo says that working as a counselor is important to her because “it’s cool to educate young minds. I also see it in a way of putting out fires,” and “the boomer generation…didn’t take mental health seriously.” She described her path in becoming a counselor as, “…definitely a straight shot. I did my bachelors in psychology at SF State. Then I went for my masters at University of San Francisco doing counseling psychology.” Outside of Campo, Domingo enjoys weightlifting and said “I also like to hang out with my friends, and eat new food.”
Caroline O’Neil is the new intake specialist at the Wellness center. When she asked why she started working here, she said, “I was a Campolindo student so I know the community and love [it]. Mental health is something that’s really near and dear to my heart, and I was looking for a change of career after my last job.”
Her last job was a probation officer for juveniles. When asked what she likes about Campo so far, she replied, “the staff is all lovely, it’s great that the Wellness Center is here. It wasn’t there when I was a student a very long time ago. And it’s a really great place to be.”
As students and staff adjust to this new school year, many give a special welcome to the new staff on campus.
