The City of Lafayette hosted its 27th annual Art and Wine Festival on September 21 and 22. The two-day long event consisted of food, art, and music, with a huge crowd to make all of it possible.
Many Campo students were in attendance, including both Campo Cheer Teams. Junior Caitlin Coyle, a member of the cheer team, said “We sat [at the booth] and sold [cheer merchandise]…I went all day on Sunday.” In addition to selling merchandise at their booth, the cheer teams volunteered in the Kids Zones. “I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends from the cheer team…we had a really good time,” said Coyle.
Sophomore Jazzy McCasland, a Lafayette local, attended the event on the first day. McCasland noted the size of the crowd, “I walked around…I’ve never seen so many people.” McCasland went with her twin sister, sophomore Kiki McCasland.
English teacher Tom Duffy enjoyed the festival with his band, The Ripplers. Duffy said, “It is our eighth time performing in the festival…we played a set of rock and roll music, and it was super fun.” Duffy said his band has “performed at the Pleasant Hill Art and Wine Festival…We’ve performed at [Moraga] Commons…We’ve performed at a lot of places around here.”
Junior Darya Inamova said, “for the Art and Wine Festival, I made a bake sale. It was a fundraiser for Ukraine. I’ve been doing it for the past three years. Every year I bake a ton of stuff and then I sell it for a couple of hours.” Inamova thought that her “cupcakes, this year, were the main attraction.” Inamova spends three days baking goods in preparation for the event. “I spent four hours baking on Friday night until two [in the morning]…I baked in the evening [of Saturday] from eight to two. I woke up at 7:30 the next morning…I made all the frosting and frosted all the cupcakes before I had to go.”
The well-attended festival was enjoyed by many members of the Campo community. Duffy said, “Great food…art…It was just a really great day.”
