On January 17th, a governing board meeting held by the AUHSD district discussed current events, along with how students may be feeling about transitioning back into school from winter break. Commissioner of Student Affairs senior Kathrynanne Terry talked about the activities that Campolindo has been putting in place for the students.
Terry explained that there are new upcoming events that she is participating in. “Next week, a group of Campo’s favorite teachers are taking forty upperclassmen, including myself, to Yosemite for a five day science themed field trip. Since the trip is screen free, our unplugged time will be spent hiking five to ten miles a day and journaling our experiences,” she said.
At this meeting, many upcoming events and current topics were mentioned by Terry. She mentioned the anticipated plays that the Drama and Arts Department are putting together, Campolindo’s open house on February 1st, Club Day, and the Leadership department visiting both JM and Stanley to talk about the transition to high school to inform students on the process.
All AUHSD schools had their student representatives give their report to the board. Additionally, Associate Superintendent John Walker, who oversees Educational Services, reported on executive cabinet updates. Walker spoke about the pressure students may feel when choosing classes for next school year. He emphasized that choosing certain classes can be a very complex decision for a student to make. Walker stated, “Counselors and administrators have detailed plans to assist students and parents and guardians with that process.” Walker went on to explain certain meetings that will be held to help students make their decisions about classes.
Many more reports, motions for action, and updates were given throughout the meeting, including 2024 financial updates, and member comments. Overall, the meeting was a success and many different topics were discussed and different voices were heard and appreciated.
