The Video Production 3 class is doing a film project and is in desperate need of actors. The project is titled “Exquisite Corpse,” and is part of a 10 year long project where “one [Video Production 3] class creates one part of a story in a film and then the class the year after them would create the next part,” said senior Madeline Friedrich. This school year marks year 9 of the project.
The Exquisite Corpse project “started as a romantic betrayal and now has moved to a story of secret agents and people dealing sugar to students,” said Friedrich. The story features characters like Yevgin, an evil CEO, and Lily and Phil who are secret agents.
In order to get actors for the project, students in Video Production began by asking Advanced Drama students if they wanted to act in the film, but many were busy with the current “Laramie Project” play taking place. “We seemingly had a lot of interest but we only had one audition show up,” said Friedrich.
Still determined, the students hung up posters around campus asking for people to come to academy in room T2 on the 19th and 24th for auditions. On the 19th, however, not a single student showed up to the audition. “Some people have outright thought it was a joke, and it’s not really been going so well,” said junior Nick Kauder.
In previous years, Video Production students would have used students from their own class, and a few from drama classes for the film, but “this year there aren’t that many Video 3 students, and none of us can act, so we need actors,” said senior Jade Wong.
Because this year’s film is the climax of the “Exquisite Corpse” project, the Video Production 3 students want to make sure “everything goes smoothly and we make this the best film that we can,” said Wong. The students don’t believe they have the acting skills necessary to make the film as good as they want it to be.
For the audition, actors memorize their lines on the Acting Auditions Screenplay provided on the Exquisite Corpse audition website (which can be accessed by scanning the QR code on the posters around campus). “We’re not going to be harsh because clearly we don’t really have actors,” said senior Kira Jacobs. For the acting part of the project, sometime in March, “we’re just going to go out to the filming location one day and then record there and that’s it,” said Wong.
This road block the Video Production 3 students have encountered causes big problems towards the success of “Exquisite Corpse.” However, each student remains having high hopes for the outcome of the project, and have been working very hard thus far to make it as great as possible.
