On November 15th there was a governing board meeting where all of the representatives from each school in the AUHSD District covered recent events. Campolindo’s report went over a variety of topics and was presented by Commissioner of Student Affairs senior Kathrynanne Terry.
Terry aimed to capture Campolindo as a whole in her report by covering diverse aspects of the school and not focusing too much in any one area. “I try to keep a balance between sports, music, art, and clubs because I like to feature everything Campo is doing,” she said.
At this particular meeting, a diverse amount of Campo events were briefed for the board. First, Terry reported on events that recently happened or were currently happening like the canned food drive, the cultural fair, and the chocolate and chess get together held by the chess club. She then mentioned the success of certain sports teams this year, including boys football, girls water polo, girls tennis. She also mentioned the National Letter of Intent signing ceremony that highlighted the success of Campolindo athletes.
Terry also talked about the college application deadlines that are soon approaching for seniors, the recent fall concert, an upcoming business and career talk given by the president of Thread up Anthony Marino, and leadership’s friendsgiving that happened the Friday before Thanksgiving break.
Each school in AUHSD (Acalanes, Miramonte, Las Lomas, and Acalanes Center for Independent Study) had their student representatives give their report to the board.
Further, many other topics were discussed during the meeting to inform the board and the public on the state of the district. For example, Associate Superintendent John Walker, who oversees Educational Services reported on executive cabinet updates. He said that since students are in “the final stretch of the first semester,” staff have been looking at progress reports and “seeing where the extra support is needed.” Walker also mentioned an update on Aeries that allowed students to “map out a four year course plan…that they can change as they work through the progression of their high school years.”
There was also a student program highlight on the ACIS Spanish Pathway where students reported on what they have learned. World Language teacher Lindsey Meinbress introduced the presentation and talked about what she would like to achieve with her students. “My goal is not just to impart vocab and grammar, but to instill in them the autonomy and confidence to navigate and communicate the beautiful Spanish language independently,” she said.
Many more reports, motions for action, and updates were given throughout the meeting, including 2023 enrollment projections, legislative updates, and member comments.
