During Academy on Wednesday, August 23, Campolindo leadership hosted a rally for freshmen, where they went over various orientation housekeeping subjects.
When asked about the rally, freshman Lucas Wong stated that his favorite part was his “ears not being able to work” from the yelling and that he “heard ringing.” Freshman Krish Srivastiva said that she thought, “the freshman rally was really fun.” Covering counselors, BIRT, and the full school rally on Friday, leadership execs outlined large amounts of information; so, to ease and aid your experience, here is a brief summary of the key points from the presentation.
At the rally, the DEIB (Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging) board, made up of seniors Allie Castro, Sean Jimu, and sophomore Akhila Bhagavan, explained BIRT. The Bias Incident Reporting Team is a system in place for students that experience or witness discrimination at campo to report it anonymously and get the proper people involved. BIRT keeps a record of incidents, provides care for the reporters who experienced/reported the event, and promotes conversation about bias, diversity and equity issues on campus. To access BIRT, QR codes are posted around school and there is a link on the Campolindo Homepage.
Many important announcements and key pieces of information were also mentioned at the orientation. Club Day was announced to be held on September 13 and students were advised to come to the quad during lunch to sign up for a club. Club content varies from astrophysics to the goats in the garden, so there is interest for everyone.
When asked, freshman Talia Beraudo said “we met a lot of faculty, so that was good,” and “it was pretty informative”. The alphabetic distribution for counselors is Jennifer Thayer (A – E), Duane Magno (F – La), Amardeep Dhaliwal (Le – Roa), and Cassandra Santellan (Rob – Z).
