Wellness Center Move
At the start of the school year, the Wellness Center, formerly located in the counseling office, moved to room B3 to allow for more space, and it is now open from 7:30AM to 3:30PM.
Especially with the recent events of COVID-19, there has been a greater focus on student mental health and a need for more resources. The previous location of the Wellness Center was not enough space to support the students at Campo.
The goals of the Wellness Center are to provide an area that students feel comfortable going to at any time of the day, whether it is to talk to someone or simply take a breath from a stressful class. Wellness incorporates coloring, reading, and various relaxing activities to help students take care of themselves.
There are several recent additions in the new center that were not possible while it was located in the counseling office. Several Campo students gave their take on the new space.
Many students enjoy the less-cramped feeling and being able to have their own space. Senior Kylie Williams appreciated the fact that “there is more space and you’re not super crowded.”
The Wellness Center now includes a quiet room. Junior Hanna Birdsong mentioned, “I think that is something that is really helpful. I know friends who have used it and they really liked it.”
Junior Katherine Yokomizo also has had many positive experiences with the new Wellness Center location. “I like how you have different spaces that you can decompress and relax in. I like the fidgets, drinking tea, and just sitting and relaxing. It is really helpful before a test to have somewhere to handle that stress outside of a classroom setting,” Yokomizo said.
Birdsong also thinks that the Wellness Center “feels more serious now that it has its own room, rather than just being an offset of the counseling offices.”
