Business Club Sends Six to State Competition

The Business Club competed in California’s Future Business Leaders of America Bay Section Leadership conference on February 4 in Cupertino. Out of 1100 students from various area schools, 6 Campolindo competitors earned distinction.

The competition was divided into 6 categories: marketing, entrepreneurship, global business, cyber security, computer problem solving and management decision making. The format of each competition was a 100 question multiple choice test taken collaboratively in student teams of 2 or 3.

Junior Arthur Goldblatt and Junior Anna Jiang  worked together on the Management Decision Making test and placed 5th.

Senior Austen Li, Senior David Yoo , and Junior Arjun Chimni  placed 3rd in the Entrepreneurship division.

Junior Ray Altenberg  placed 4th in Computer Problem Solving and 1st in Cyber Security.  Altenberg was a national qualifier in 2016.

By virtue of their performances at the area competition, all of these student will now advance to the state competition to be held the 1st week of April.

In addition to the automatic qualifiers, the Campolindo squad is also hoping to secure additional berths to the state championships via a wildcard selection process . Sophomore Andrew Yoo said, “I didn’t make it to the state competition like the upperclassmen did, but I’m hoping that the wildcard spot opens up for me. I’ll be crossing my fingers.”

“I’m very excited for states this year,” said David Yoo. “It’s pretty unfortunate that it’s during our spring break, but at least we won’t miss any school and will have more time to prepare. I’m pretty confident that we will do well though.”

For now the team will be practicing and studying their subject matter. David Yoo said, “This is when it gets serious. States is the hardest part of everything so we need to practice much more.”
