Freshman and sophomore choir classes displayed their vocal talents on May 28 at the annual “Pops” concert, which featured renditions of popular contemporary music.
Performed at the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, the concert was packed with spectators. Tickets for non-choir members were $5.
A reception with drinks and food followed the performance.
Sophomore Walker Franklin, part of the all-boys sophomore group, was happy with the performance. “I thought we sang and performed our songs really well. It was definitely excited for the audience to watch,” he said.
“We all change into clothes relating to our songs, and the songs are faster and also very catchy. My favorite songs to sing were the Frozen ones,” Franklin said.
Beth Evenhuis said, “It was really fun. I like how all my friends come and watch and support too.”
Matt Blair said, “I came to watch my friends. I didn’t know some of the songs were going to be as catchy as they were though. I still have ‘Summer Lovin’ stuck in my head.” “Summer Lovin'” was performed by the all-girls sophomore choir.
At the intermission, awards were handed out to exceptional members of the choir. Nathan Correll and Chloe Bouchy won the freshman awards and Derek Ludwig and Claire Hathaway won for the sophomores. Franklin won the leadership award.
Choir teacher Mark Roberts said, “I was really happy with in particular the POPS stuff. I thought it was the best it’s been for the past few years. I was happy with how they sounded in both the art section and the POPS part. Overall, it was the happiest I’ve been for a spring concert.”
