Leadership collaborated with Las Lomas High School on a community Prom Dress Drive to benefit low income Bay Area girls.
Dresses accepted March 3-7 in room E9.
Junior Social Secretary Julia Giovanni was contacted by a Las Lomas leadership student, asking if Campolindo would like to be involved with the event. “She needed more participation, so she emailed me and I told her that I would be willing to do it,” Giovanni said.
From Las Lomas, the dresses will be sent to the Princess Project, a non-profit organization that promotes self-confidence and beauty by providing free dresses for high school girls who cannot afford them, according to teacher Dino Petrocco. “They dry clean them, and they basically have a big warehouse where you can go to pick out your Prom dress,” Petrocco explained.
According Petrocco, although Leadership has done this in the past, this year’s Drive is different due to the joint effort between the two schools. “What made it kind of special was that it was a district wide effort,” he said.
Giovanni enjoyed having the opportunity to support the cause. “I think everyone deserves a fun prom, and I think there’s so much hype about, ‘oh what dress are you wearing?’ I think everyone should have that chance to wear a dress that they like, so I think it’s good to provide this opportunity,” she said.
Petrocco felt that, although they didn’t get that many donations, it was good that Leadership was able to help out. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get a lot of dresses, but anything we can do to contribute is helpful because Prom is really expensive,” he said.
“It was a pretty short drive, but we’re just trying to get a few dresses just to participate a little bit,” Giovanni said.
