The beginning of a year ushers in new trends; some are fleeting, and others are able to stay for the long haul. Trends come and go with the ins and outs of social media trends and the weather. As the school year at Campolindo High draws to a close, students are reflecting on styles that have endured, and styles that became a past fad. From cozy sweatpants to stylish sneakers, there are certain trends that remain a consistent sight on campus in the fashionable outfits of Cougars.
Sophomore Leah Campbell notices that trends last longer when they optimize both comfort and style. When asked why some trends are able to last, Campbell believes “If it’s comfy, it’s going to last.” For example, “Because sweatpants are comfy and everyone wears them in hoodies, uncomfortable clothes just for fashion are not gonna last.” Many Campolindo students seem to share this sentiment about comfortable clothes. Freshman Stella Canoles agrees, saying, “I really like wearing jeans and sweaters to school because I feel really put together.” Clearly Campolindo students enjoy wearing clothes that are not only comfortable but also chic. Clothes that make you feel good and look good will always be a classic not just across the year but across age groups and gender. The balance between style and comfort can be seen across these groups on campus, with Cougars opting for clothing that not only looks good but also allows for ease throughout the long school days.
While fads may come and go, like jean skirts, Gazelles, or sandwiching that come and go with the seasons, some styles like jeans and sweaters are able to stand the test of time. So what makes these trends last longer than others? Sophomore Greta Kenderski believes that trends last longer “when you can age through them.” For example, “Jeans are available for all ages,” she says. “You’re able to wear them in middle school and high school. And they have versatile styles. So I think the overall concept of jeans has withstood the test of time,” she finishes. Jeans can be seen everywhere, because they not only make the wearer look good but also feel good, making them applicable for all styles and ages.
In addition to jeans and sweatpants, many types of footwear are timeless. Leah Campbell notices how Uggs, slippers, and Birkenstocks remain popular among Campo students. Campbell notices many of her peers enjoy wearing versatile shoes that go with a lot of outfits. She herself loves her Sambas because “they go with everything.” Shoe trends are able to last longer than clothing trends because of their versatility when it comes to creating outfits, so if you’re looking for a new item of clothing look for shoes instead!
While the cycle of fashion trends will always continue, the appeal of comfort, timeless pieces, and universal footwear can withstand the test of time. In the end, while new trends will always emerge with the latest viral trend on social media, the classic styles that combine comfort, functionality, and a broad appeal will always remain constant.
