Community First Club (CFC), originally named Fundraising for the Homeless Club, provides service and volunteer opportunities to Campo’s students while also giving back to the community around them. From letter drives for senior citizens to pickleball fundraisers, CFC does it all.
While the name has been changed since junior and vice president Anjali Rao joined her freshman year, the club’s objective is still the same. The purpose of changing the name was to allow for a broader range of issues to be supported by the club.
Many members of CFC joined for similar reasons: most wanted to find a good way to give back to the community. Junior and social media coordinator Maneli Malboubi said, “I couldn’t find a lot of volunteer opportunities to do myself and I wanted to have a good cause and to do a good thing in the community. I couldn’t really find that, so I used CFC as an outlet to find good stuff to do,” and Rao mentioned, “I wanted volunteer hours and it looked like a really fun club.”
When asked why she joined the club, freshman Zoe Freese said, “I felt like it was a fantastic environment to be in, especially to get service hours”
The most popular event hosted by CFC during the 2024-2025 school year so far has been their pickleball fundraiser in November. Rao said, “we raised a ton of money and it was really fun.” The club raised and donated over $800 to the West Oakland Food Bank, Helping Others Win. Rao added, “We’re going to do another pickleball fundraiser before the end of the year.”
In addition to pickleball, CFC participated in a Valentine’s Day themed letter drive for Meals on Wheels, where participants wrote 80 letters in total to send to vulnerable seniors in the community.
The club also hosted an event at Aegis Living Home, where club members decorated cookies with seniors while watching the Super Bowl.
The members and leaders are looking forward towards the future and hope to plan many more memorable events. Rao said that the club hopes to do “an event with White Pony [Express],“ as well as another pickleball fundraiser.
Freese mentions that “the club is a very great place to enjoy friendships, lasting experiences, and overall just a great club to join.”
