Whether it be a carton of milk or a shirt with pink smiling mushrooms on it, everything has an expiration date. Trends come and go and it’s rare for some to stay in style. Some may think that it is much safer to stick with the basics, but it may be hard not to fall into the trap of a new trend. Whether it be makeup or just simply a clothing item, students have a lot of regrets. Some Campo students shared their feelings about old trends.
During the pandemic, some students started experimenting with new makeup styles they saw on social media that were trending at the time. Junior Kate Griffith shared how she fell into the trap of some of these trends. Griffith said, “I regret wearing a lot of eyeliner in Covid because of the TikTok trend.”
Social media can be a big influence when it comes to trends, but this is not always the case. Junior Emma Hudak talked about how some of her fellow students may have played a small part in why she regrets buying this item. Hudak said, “I regret buying Birkenstocks because my toes get cold, and I bought them right before winter.”
Hudak also went on and talked about how they are too expensive for what they are. Hudak stated, “They are expensive and look like pilgrim shoes.” Griffith piggybacked on what Hudak said and how some shoes are just trendy at the moment, but end up collecting dust in her closet. Griffith said, “I also regret wearing New Balances because they are ugly.”
Pricey items tend to be trendy. Junior Valerie Vojta stated how at the time, she liked the clothing trends, but now, not so much. Vojta stated, “I did some of the clothing trends and thought that I would like them. Looking back on it, I regret buying the trendy items that were expensive and I don’t wear anymore and I think they are ugly.”
Vojta, Hudak, and Griffith all have regrets when it comes to past trends. While if they could go back in time and not make the decisions they did when it came to trends, they all said they would. It is easier said than done when it comes to the decision to not partake in a trend, but Vojta has a plan to make sure she does not give in and conform. Vojta expressed that she will decide to, “instead of doing the trendy outfits I want to be unique and different and just do me, without following the trends anymore.” This can be a piece of advice to those who regret buying certain clothes that now just collect dust in their closet.
