Halloween is creeping up right around the corner and students are ready to celebrate. Many Halloween trends are set in place and while some may choose to ghost the classic traditions, not everyone is. Halloween is the one time of the year where students can dress any way they want. Some students voiced their opinions on new Halloween trends and how Halloween has changed over the years.
While trick-or-treating may be too “childish” for some for high school students, others disagree.
Junior Valerie Vojta believes “that trick-or-treating is still a staple for Halloween.” While Vojta still loves classic trick-or-treating, she also has some opinions on other Halloween traditions. Vojta stated, “I think there are some new Halloween trends instead of going trick-or-treating, like hanging out with friends and having parties.”
Vojta’s thoughts are similar to junior Madeleine Deyo-Snyder. Deyo-Snyder stated, “Some old Halloween trends are carving pumpkins, walking around Spirit Halloween trying on costumes, decorating my house and buying bags of candy.” While Deyo-Snyder still enjoys the old traditions, she expressed how Halloween has changed over the years. Deyo-Snyder stated, “Halloween has changed since I was a little kid in terms of how I no longer go trick-or-treating with my mom, now I go to parties with friends.”
The biggest part of Halloween is the creative costumes people come up with. Junior Aurora Mende shared how she likes to dress up. Mende stated, “I think halloween is an excuse for me to do eccentric makeup and dress up.” Mende also shared that she likes “doing group costumes with my friends or dressing extravagantly.”
Deyo-Snyder expressed how she has changed the style of her Halloween costumes. She stated, “I also find myself wearing more cute costumes than scary or funny ones because of going out with friends and not just around my neighborhood.” While these two have been changing their styles throughout the years, Vojta shared that she noticed that, “nowadays older girls, instead of dressing like a movie character, they dress up like they’re going to homecoming which I think was a trend.”
Many students have different plans on how they are going to celebrate Halloween this year. Traditions have changed, but the love for Halloween is still there for Deyo-Snyder, Mende, and Vojta. Witch-ever the students choose to do on this upcoming Halloween, they will have a skella good time.
