With spring break just wrapping up, Campo students shared their exciting plans and memories. Whether these students spent a relaxing week at the beach or enjoyed the green hills of Moraga, everyone seemed to be very excited for the seven days away from school.
Spring break plans can easily be affected by school work and Advanced Placement courses as well. With AP Exams quickly approaching, students enrolled in those classes may have had to dedicate time during their break to study.
As well as having to complete homework, many Campo students were busy with sports and other extracurriculars.
Senior Marcus Han had a pleasant spring break looking at colleges and enjoying the break from homework: “I visited a college in Richmond with my family and was really excited to see it.” In years past when college tours were not in the picture Han took a relaxing beach vacation in Hawaii where he, “went on lots of good hikes with his family and saw a volcano which was really interesting.”
While some students are touring colleges and relaxing on a beach, others such as senior Shea Volkmer were grinding out training for her respective sport, track and field. Volkmer explained, “I had practice every day so I went there. I found some fun places to run because I had more time.” Volkmer stayed home this year to get in her miles but not all of her spring breaks were spent in Moraga. She remembered how, “last year [her] family went to Hawaii and that was really fun… the running was a little difficult because it was so hot but it was really pretty.”
Aside from Volkmer’s training, an ideal spring break would look like “spending a lot of time relaxing and probably making some good meals with my family and friends.” Luckily, these plans came easily to fruition this year due to the lack of homework Volkmer’s teachers assigned.
Other students looked forward to relaxing vacations. Senior Ali Maguy traveled to Verona, Italy with her family. Maguy said, “I went to Italy for my brother’s water polo team. I was most excited to be in warm water and go somewhere new.”
Sophomore Carina Trento attended the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church service trip to Tijuana, Mexico. Trento said, “We built houses and I was really excited because people had said it’s super fun.” Trento explained how she was looking forward to attending the trip because of all the positive feedback she’s heard from her peers. Her only concerns were, “having to use a sun shower and living in a tent for a week.”
Trento’s dream spring break plans are to, “just go somewhere different.” which she already fulfilled last year when she took a family trip to Hawaii where she “went scuba diving which [I] would definitely do again.”
Junior Elizabeth VonderBrink traveled all over, visiting family and touring various colleges. VonderBrink said, “My family went to Pismo Beach and went to tour Cal Poly and Boston to tour Northeastern because my brother got in there. I also went to Malibu to see my uncle.” VonderBrink added that she was most excited about “going to the beach and getting tan”.
While many Campo students were excited for spring break 2024, they also reflected on past spring vacations. VonderBrink said her favorite spring break was “Probably when we went to the Grand Canyon for spring break a couple years ago and [we] saw my cousins in Las Vegas. Spring break is normally fun travel whereas winter break is more like [we] are seeing family”.
Maguy also mentioned her most memorable spring break, “My favorite spring break was last year when I got to go to Spain, also for my brother’s waterpolo and a bunch of people from Campo came and it was really fun.”
