There are few things that I find truly hilarious. Few movies actually succeed in making me laugh, and I usually find most comedies to be sub-par. However, Pitch Perfect shattered all my standards, bringing hilarious to a whole new level.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Pitch Perfect is up there with such modern comedic classics as Mean Girls or Bridesmaids. The film is packed with pee-your-pants humor, and endless quotable one-liners.
The film follows the Bellas, an all-female college a capella group, as they face off with classmates and rivals, the all-male Treblemakers. A forbidden romance blooms between the Bellas’ Beca (played by Anna Kendrick) and Treblemaker Jesse (Skylar Astin), much to the aggravation of the Bella’s strict leader, Aubrey (Anna Camp). Hilarity and self-discovery ensue as both groups sing and dance their way to the national championship.
It is this musical component that sets Pitch Perfect far apart from other films of the same genre. The soundtrack to this movie is incredible; all of the singers are amazingly talented.
Every actor and actress plays their part to comedic perfection. Most notably is Rebel Wilson’s portrayal of the always-hilarious “Fat Amy,” by far the highlight of the movie. The movie also features such voices as Brittany Snow and Ester Dean.
I have to admit, I went into the movie with low expectations, especially given that it had received such complementary reviews that I figured there was no way it could live up to the hype. But believe me, it did.
