Every morning I wake up in my own room, in my own bed, surrounded by only my belongings. In just over a year, I will be headed off to college where I will be faced with a new sort of challenge: a roommate. I have shared a room with my sister before, but never with someone I did not know.
I am a little apprehensive, but I am also excited about moving out and getting accustomed to a new environment. I have heard stories about college freshmen getting horrible roommates and hating their dorm life, so I am hoping that is not the case for me. I am praying my roommate is similar to myself and we get along.
According to my sister, a recent Campo graduate, the biggest difference about dorm living is not having your own room. She also said it is much different living in close proximity to so many other people, because at home you have more space and are not as crammed together.
My sister said dorm life is, “better, but different and overtime you get used to it.” She also said that living in a dorm and on your own requires you to be far more organized, not only with your stuff but with your time. All people are on different schedules and there is no one telling you what to do or when to do it.
As I look forward to moving onto college in about a year, I hope I am prepared for this new living situation. It will take some getting used to, but I will be ready.
