Boys’ Hoopsters Beat Mats

With the support of several dozen fans who made the short trip to Miramonte on January 11, the varsity boys’ basketball squad beat their rivals, 62-49.  It was the 1st meeting of the season between the 2 schools.

Heading into the game, senior David Ahazie was concerned about whether or not his team would be able to maintain its poise on the Matadors’ home turf. “We need to focus on just the game and how we play. It will be harder to win if our rivalry distracts us.”

As it turned out,  Ahazie, who was making his return to play after a finger fracture, maintained his focus.  He scored 19 points to lead the Cougars.

Freshmen brothers Aiden Mahaney and junior Carter Mahaney’s also helped out with consistent free throw shots.

Campolindo held the lead throughout the 1st half. Senior Ryan Jeter said, “It was important that we started off the game aggressive because recently, we have been having problems with maintaining a strong 1st half.”

According to senior Jake Chan, the 2nd half featured exceptional teamwork from the Cougars. “I believe that as a team we are working really hard in practice every day, and it is paying off on the court in game situations,” he said.
