Over 20 students attended tryouts for the girls’ varsity basketball squad after school on November 11.

While there were plenty of new athletes eager to contribute, coach Art Thoms does have some veterans left over from last year’s team.  He hopes that they will take the lead in bringing the rookies up to speed. “I would expect the 4 returning players to have a big impact. Hopefully they will help the newer players to adapt to the varsity level” said Thoms.

While there is always a competitive expectation at the varsity level, the first step towards winning games is establishing chemistry. “This year we will all be able to closer as a team which will help us win more games,” said sophomore varsity veteran Jessica O’Reilly.

O’Reilly was pleased with what she saw at tryouts. “It was a great group of girls that came out and everyone worked really hard,” she said.

O’Reilly’s coach echoed that sentiment as well. “The main goals are, we want to have fun, we want to come together and have a good bond, really supporting each other and being encouraging to each other,” said Thoms.

After the tryouts were completed, coach Thoms took 11 players for his varsity roster.
