At the Les Schwab NCS Duel Team Championships the Cougars clinched 3rd place after losing to eventual tournament winner Albany. Campo beat Clayton Valley twice  and Jackson Hagglund and Wesley Caspillo both went undefeated for the day.

Brendan Strijker won the consolation match against his Clayton Valley opponent, earning an individual medal.

Jackson Wiley had his match of the year. Down by five points with eight seconds left on the clock he took down his opponent to send the contest into overtime, where he won by resisting a take down to earn two points.

In the previous league matches leading up to the NCS tournament, the team carried momentum from a win over Doughterty Valley into its showdown with undefeated Las Lomas on Thursday, February 9th. Evenly crowded with Knight and Cougar fans, the match would determine the league champion.

The Cougars started slowly, with four losses. But senior Chris Welbrook turned things around with a 15-5 win.

Following Welbrook, senior Danny Fox pinned his opponent and sophmore Grant Smith and seniors Wesley Caspillo and Dan Ingersoll also earned victories. However the Knights’ squad held on for the team win, 40-33.

The loss dropped Campo to second place in the DFAL.

Coach Tom Renno said, “We are all very proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but we have unfinished business.”
