July 4th Fun Run Supports Campo Teams
June 2, 2014
Moraga will kick off the July 4th holiday with its annual Fun Run in support of Campolindo athletic teams. All ages are invited to participate in the kiddie, 2 mile or 5 mile races that start and finish near the Moraga Commons.
Proceeds from the event, which has been a summer holiday tradition in the town 13 years, support the Campolindo High School cross country and track programs.
Registration for the event is available online at campotrack.com.
The kiddie race is $10, and the 2 mile and 5 mile races are $25 per entry.
Parent volunteers, including this year’s race director team of Albert Bernardo, Kirsten Buckley, Sherman Lee and Susan Strong, are already making preparations for the event, which typically attracts over 500 runners and walkers from the Lamorinda area.
Former Acalanes High School cross country and track athlete Harland Lopez was last year’s 5 mile race winner, finishing in 27:41, just ahead of Campolindo’s Aidan Goltra.
Current Campolindo junior Brighie Leach was the girls’ 5 mile race winner in 2014, holding off Miramonte parent and coach Alison Zamanian. Campolindo record holder and current University of Colorado star Carrie Verdon was 4th.
Late registration for the race begins at 7:00am on the morning of July 4th. The kiddie run begins at 8:00am, and the 2 mile and 5 mile races start at 8:30am.
In addition to a race t-shirt, a free post-race pancake breakfast at the Moraga Commons is available to all 2 mile and 5 mile participants.
Division winners also receive merchandise provided by Runningwarehouse.com.
The courses for the 2 mile race and 5 mile race can be found online at campotrack.com.
