Winter is here, so pull those cozy scarves and sweaters out of your closet. The shorts, skirts, crop tops, and flip-flops popular on campus just months ago are out, traded in for leggings, jeans, sweaters and boots.
Winter fashion is back and retailers are offering the latest trends.
Distressed and dark-washed jeans are hip this winter, particularly in flare and skinny styles. Popular brands are True Religion and Levi’s.
As for leggings, LuluLemons, expensive as they are, still rule.
Tribal print is popular this season, especially on shirts. Other tops in style are loose and flow-y, either tight at the bottom or non-conforming throughout. V-necks and swoop necks are also relevant pieces to have in your closet this season.
Riding-style boots are on everyone’s shopping list, from tall to short and brown to black. Ugg boots and Chelsea booties are also hot. Traditional TOMS, Converse, and Vans are still the rage, but Sperry’s, moccasins, and slip-ons are just as trendy. You can find cute boots at TJ Maxx, Macy’s, and Nordstrom.
Headbands are back. Larger and thicker headbands have prevailed over their slimmer counterparts. A new trend is head wraps, worn over the ears for warmth. If you’re not ready for full-on head gear, try a contrasting floral scarf.
Some of my favorite places to shop this winter are American Eagle, Hollister and Forever 21. While Forever 21 has the most reasonable prices, their clothing tends to loose its sparkle quickly; but if you’re looking for somewhere to buy basic accessories for a bargain, Forever 21 is still the best place.
Hollister is a little too expensive to shop at often, but it has excellent quality. American Eagle is the median, offering average quality for slightly above average prices.
“I usually shop at Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, H&M, and Tilly’s,” said junior Emily Sevens.
Stevens said that during the winter, she shops primarily for soft sweaters, jeans, leggings, and boots. “I shop more for winter clothing. You always need warmer clothes; summer you just need shorts and tank tops,” she explained. “It’s cute and cozy.”
