The girls’ varsity volleyball team beat rival Acalanes 3-0 on Thursday, October 11, continuing their undefeated league season.
Campo won the first game 25-6. Acalanes fought back the second game but Freshman Kirsten Sibley ended the second game with a kill, helping the Cougars win 25-16. They finished the match with a third set final score of 25-17.
According to senior Gaby Gryko, the team is very close despite the age differences on the roster.
Gryko said, “Everyone is willing to work really hard, and we all know that the whole team supports everyone 100%.” Senior co-captain Annie Shurtz said, “A team must always find themselves and have a ‘peaking point,’ and I think together we are on the right track as far as discovering who we are as a team.”
The team hopes to make it to state this year, and according to head coach John Vuong, that is their “ultimate goal.” Gryko said she believes they can make it if they “stay mentally consistent and work hard.”
As for the new outside hitter Sibley, she has “stepped it up and showed that she deserves to be on the team,” according to Shurtz. The cougars hope to continue their undefeated league record when they play Miramonte tonight.
